Mental Health Therapist III

Position Summary

The full-time Mental Health Therapist position is available for our Behavioral Health Program in Vancouver, WA. This position is part of the Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT), an evidence-based practice in the treatment of consumers with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders who have resisted traditional mental health services.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in ensuring agency compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and contracts.
• Aids in developing and implementing policies and procedures as directed by the Program Manager.
• Edits staff regarding the process for mental health service referrals and psychoeducational topics (such as suicide risk assessment, behavior modification).
• Documents outcomes, justifies diagnoses, and communicates with the primary Chemical Dependency Counselor regarding outcomes and recommendations.
• Provides diagnostic assessments for each patient during the program.
• Attends sessions with psychiatric service providers to ensure accuracy of presentations and address identified needs.
• Maintains confidentiality, prevents splitting between staff and patients, and offers concrete ideas on handling challenging situations.
• Provides individual counseling, crisis stabilization, suicide risk assessment, and treatment plans.
• Supports other staff regarding mental health needs of staff or patients.
• Gathers information regarding past mental health services to be used in the individual’s treatment plan development.
• Provides mental health services referrals to patients prior to or following admission, and exchanges information with outside service providers.
• Supports other staff regarding mental health needs of staff or patients.
• Maintains confidentiality, prevents splitting between staff and patients, and offers concrete ideas on handling challenging situations.

Education and/or Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology or social work, including coursework in psychological diagnostics.
• Must qualify as an MHP in accordance with state WACs.
• Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Experience with the MHIP model of care, patient registries, and collaborative care is required.
• Four or more years’ experience in the field.
• Must meet criteria of a Mental Health Professional (MHP).
• Must hold and maintain an active Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor License (may be pending for up to 60 days if applied for within 7 days of being offered employment) or mental health Associate License (includes Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, and Clinical Social Worker).
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
