Responsibilities
- Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, which may involve individual, family, and/or group therapy, crisis intervention, and diagnostic evaluations.
- Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team involving consultation, treatment planning, and periodic care review.
- Documents interventions, both direct and indirect, in the patient’s medical record in compliance with the Division, Department, and Hospital policy.
- Ensures timely completion of statistical reports/forms.
- Collaborates with family, social supports, community agencies (past and present) to ensure appropriate and effective care.
- Coordinates referrals and facilitates linkage to other appropriate agencies/supports.
- Attends Division, Department, and Clinic level staff meetings.
- Ensures that Division, Department, and Clinic policies and procedures are implemented with regard to professional practice and patient care.
- Timely completion of time sheets, and other Hospital or Division mandatory in-service trainings and Health Assessments.
- Subscribes to maintaining a culturally competent environment by treating patient, families, trainees, and co-workers in a sensitive manner with appropriate attention to cultural differences.
- Participates in available cultural competency events and training appropriate to job duties.
- Develops and leads groups for patients (and possibly family members or their support network) which focuses on issues and needs of the mentally ill population.
- Provides back-up coverage for patient care, as appropriate and requested.
Qualifications
- Master's degree from a CACREP accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required.
- Prior experience working with individuals with mental illness and/or community mental health preferred.
- Experience with adolescent/young adults also preferred.
- Knowledge of mental illness preferred.
- Ability to engage in person centered treatment preferred.
- Knowledge/skills in various therapeutic interventions including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing preferred.
- Knowledge of risk evaluation and mitigation preferred.
Skills
- Requires NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) or limited permit eligibility.
