About the Role

The Dual Diagnosis Therapist serves as the client's Primary Treatment Provider, collaborating with the assigned Chemical Dependency (CD) Counselor. The role focuses on co-occurring disorders, family, and couples work. The therapist may also facilitate or conduct Life Line group, Processing groups, Didactic/Life Skills, and Family Educational groups, provided they have the appropriate competency and training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct individual therapy sessions for clients.
• Facilitate group therapy sessions.
• Complete charting for all assessments, sessions, and groups.
• Attend and participate in Treatment Team Staffing.
• Maintain compliance with program and regulatory standards.
• Monitor client progress in the program and modify treatment plans as needed.
• Engage in contact with family members and perform crisis interventions.
• Specialize in trauma and PTSD, with competency in chemical dependency treatment.

Qualifications

• Active license in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LCP) or willingness to obtain one if transferring from another state or newly licensed.
• Master’s Degree or higher is required.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and facility staff.
• Advanced computer knowledge, including experience with word processing and spreadsheet creation (Mac and/or Microsoft platforms).
• Current TB skin test.
• Working knowledge of various mental health/addiction philosophies, counseling models, and treatment practices as they apply to mental health and substance abuse counseling.
• Experience with military or first responders (preferred).
