Mental Health Therapist
About the role
Provides mental health and, preferably, substance use counseling for Campbell University students via a stepped-care model. Primarily provides counseling for students through initial consultation screening, intake assessment, short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisis assessment/intervention, and case management. In addition, this position will be the primary provider for substance use assessment and counseling for students, including those mandated for services.
Responsibilities
- Provide mental health and substance use counseling for Campbell University students.
- Refer students as appropriate for psychiatric evaluation, psychological testing/evaluation, specialized treatment, and/or long-term therapy.
- Crisis intervention and crisis debriefings as necessary in the event of student, staff, and/or faculty injuries and/or deaths.
- Provide outreach to students re: mental health and substance use concerns.
- Serve as a consultant to other University faculty/staff, students, and parents.
- Prepare and manage client records, progress notes, reports, assessment documents, and other necessary documentation in accordance with regulations governing this discipline.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all proprietary information and ensure ethical standards are upheld in the execution of clinical services in compliance with licensure organizations (American Counseling Association, National Association of Social Workers, and NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board), university policies, local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with legal issues, including, but not limited to, client confidentiality and risk management; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collect statistics as required for reports; prepare required reports and paperwork.
- Participate in continuing education to continually improve skills and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Regulations (completion of Bi-Annual report; assessing the University’s compliance, developing a plan of implementation for requirements not met presently).
- Periodic evening hours (presentations to residence halls, clubs, organizations; various outreach events).
Requirements
Minimum of a Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, counseling, social work, or equivalent field. Candidate will be expected to obtain mental health and substance use licensures in NC within one year of start date and maintain licensure for the continuation of the appointment. At least 5 years of full-time experience providing psychotherapy for general mental health concerns. Prefer that experience be with the young adult population. At least 3 years of experience providing substance use counseling and assessment services. Prefer experience with co-morbid populations. Prefer Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with group counseling.
- Experience in Trauma treatment.
- Experience with other addictive concerns (e.g., reducing use of pornography, gambling).
- Knowledge of ethics and licensure laws and commitment to abide by those regulations.
- Experience working with substance-related and addictive disorders is mandatory.
- Strong clinical skills and experience with co-occurring MH/substance use population.
- Experience with mandated client populations is preferred.
- Experience in the field to assist with and supervise practicum and internship students is preferred.
- Demonstrated competence in group counseling as well as time-limited individual psychotherapy with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated competence in outreach and prevention program planning and implementation.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Ability to work as a team player with other Student Life employees and other University staff/faculty.
