Mental Health Therapist , .2 FTE- Bilingual Required

This is a temporary, part-time (.2 FTE) licensed professional position providing high-quality mental health care to students and families within the Corvallis School District. Bilingual skills are required.

About the Role

The role involves direct screening, diagnosis, and case formulation, as well as implementation of treatment plans for individuals, families, and group psychotherapy in school-based therapeutic spaces. The position operates within a balanced caseload model, prioritizing client needs over productivity metrics.

Responsibilities

• Assess the appropriateness of referrals based on mental health program screening criteria.
• Conduct direct screenings, diagnoses, and case formulations, and implement treatment plans for individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
• Work with individuals and groups of students to improve decision-making and interpersonal skills, fostering social/emotional balance and educational progress.
• Manage a caseload of clinical work, balancing intensity and flexibility based on client needs.
• Consult with students, families, and staff to identify and address problems interfering with school progress, prioritizing client self-determination in treatment.
• Complete required clinical documentation in the district’s medical record system, including assessments, treatment plans, recommendation letters, and service notes.
• Maintain timely, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Provide case management, including triaging, referrals, and coordination with clients, families, and external providers (with appropriate Release of Information).
• Assist in transitions between elementary, middle, and high school.
• Participate in school-based teams (e.g., 504, IEP, SST, CARE, WRAP) as an advocate for client needs.
• Collaborate with school counselors, deans, and administrators as part of a behavioral health response team.
• Support the implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI), including school improvement planning, parent engagement, and committee participation.
• Provide guidance to administrators and staff on meeting diverse social, emotional, and academic needs of students.
• Challenge stigmas and discrimination, promoting an inclusive school environment.
• Serve as a liaison between the school and community resources benefiting students, families, and the school community.
• Create and model a respectful learning environment, working effectively with diverse student, staff, and community populations.
• Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents/guardians regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Assist in implementing school policies and positive behavior support plans.
• Utilize technology relevant to job responsibilities and pursue professional growth.
• Attend mental health staff meetings, district in-service meetings, and school-related activities outside regular work hours.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Oregon professional licensure (PsyD, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
• Minimum two years of work experience in mental health, with at least one year providing case management and treatment to individuals with mental illness and/or addictions.
• Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of confidentiality (HIPAA) and FERPA requirements.
• Graduate coursework in theory, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.
• Proficiency in using DSM IV-TR, DSM V, and ICD-10.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including clinical documentation and professional interactions with families, educators, and community members.
• Experience with community behavioral health, systemic intervention, or public health for youth and families.
• Experience working with individuals in emotional distress and those with mental health issues.
• Strong professional social and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of human growth and development, learning theory, and brain research.
• Familiarity with age-appropriate guidance, counseling, and behavior management strategies.
• Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
• Knowledge of state and federal education laws, student and staff rights, and ability to exhibit professionalism in human relations.
• Standard First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within two months of hire) may be required.

Physical Demands

• Frequent or prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.

• Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations and meetings.
• Accurate sound perception and close vision with depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Handling and working with a variety of materials and objects.
• Occasional lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 pounds (possibly up to 50 pounds).
• Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury or illness.
• Possible exposure to bodily harm due to student behaviors.
• Training in physical intervention for students in mental health crisis, with potential engagement in clinically indicated interventions.

Pay

Salary range: $56,258 – $105,238 (prorated according to FTE), based on full-time status. Benefits included.

• Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP).
• Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility requires working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position (or 600 hours in a calendar year for part-time employees).

Schedule

• 191 work days per year.
