About the role
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Permian Basin focuses on helping adults and seniors manage mental health issues through various inpatient and outpatient treatments. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) plays a crucial role in supporting the nursing staff by performing routine tasks and assisting with patient care.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to professional standards and follow policies and procedures.
- Apply supportive behavior and employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions.
- Inventories patient belongings and secures contraband as needed.
- Comply with standard/universal precautions and infection control policies.
- Implement patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel.
- Perform vital signs, weights, ADLs, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communicate findings to the nurse.
- Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintain belongings.
- Individualize all patient care activities based on age, disability, and cultural sensitivity.
- Communicate and document patient observations and data effectively in the patient record.
- Communicate outcomes of assigned tasks to nursing staff and ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must work well with diverse populations and utilize age, disability, and cultural-specific knowledge.
- Must be in good physical and mental health, demonstrating a warm, empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and hold a high sense of personal integrity.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction.
- Must be able to work under close supervision and handle occasional interruptions and pressure.
- Must be able to cope with high-paced and stressful situations.
- Must be able to work in a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
