Mental Health Technician position located at UH Lakewood Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, within the Behavioral Health GeriPsyche department.

About the role

Join our team as a Mental Health Technician and support our Licensed Nursing Staff by providing patient care and fostering a therapeutic environment. You’ll assist with daily activities, ensure a safe and positive space, and perform a variety of duties in both clerical and clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Help patients with daily activities and provide direct care under nursing supervision.
  • Maintain a supportive, safe, and positive environment for patients and staff.
  • Perform diverse duties, including clerical tasks and clinical assistance.
  • Use compassion and skills to support and comfort patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 120 days of hire.
  • Clearance through the Family Care Registry.
  • Complete training as directed during orientation and within established timelines.
  • Department orientation with classroom and clinical training equivalent to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) regulations, or meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in a professional or practical nursing program and completed a fundamentals of nursing course.
    • Nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure exam in the past 3 years.
    • Certified as a nursing assistant per state regulation.
    • Certified or trained in UAP curriculum.
    • Documented experience as a nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician in the past 3 years.
    • Completed UAP training in Missouri within the last 3 years.
    • Completed a professional or practical nursing program outside the U.S. and awaiting licensure.
    • UAPs from staffing agencies must comply with training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living (e.g., ambulation, feeding).
  • Previous mental health experience.
  • BCLS certification.
