About the role

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond seeks to support adults and seniors in managing mental health challenges through a variety of inpatient and outpatient services.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to professional standards and policies.
  • Supports the nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment.
  • Assists in controlling patient behavior using supportive and de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of patient belongings and secures contraband as needed.
  • Completes unit safety checks and follows standard/universal precautions.
  • Performs vital signs, weights, ADLs, intake and output documentation, and nutritional monitoring under the direction of licensed nursing personnel.
  • Ensures patients receive appropriate diets by reviewing dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Assists patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintains belongings; assists with mobility needs as needed.
  • Individualizes patient care activities based on age, disability, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Communicates and documents patient observations, vital signs, nutrition intake, and findings effectively in the patient record.
  • Documents patient departures and significant occurrences accurately and within defined time lines.
  • Communicates outcomes of assigned tasks to nursing staff and updates ongoing activities and patient needs to relevant staff.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • Good physical and mental health, evidenced by a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and high sense of personal integrity.
  • Successfully completed CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under close supervision.
