About the role
The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, including assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, monitoring patients for potential aggressive behaviors, and using appropriate interventions to de-escalate situations.
Responsibilities
- Follow instructions from nursing leadership and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Report patient medical problems and alterations in sensory perceptual images (illusions, delusions, hallucinations) to the Registered Nurse.
- Monitor safety issues related to patients experiencing sensory perceptual disturbances and take action to prevent harm.
- Provide care that ensures safety, respects patients’ rights, and maintains comfort and a therapeutic environment.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner, completing appropriate documentation.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and encourage independent behavior with appropriate interventions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of college in psychology, social work, mental health, or related health fields preferred.
- Experience in dealing with emotionally disturbed individuals preferred.
Schedule
Full-time nights, 36 hours per week, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, every other weekend.
