Responsibilities

  • Provides direct and indirect care, under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), for a patient or an assigned group of patients.
  • Maintains program function including meal supervision and patient safety checks.
  • Facilitates or co-facilitates therapeutic group process.
  • Conducts therapeutic interventions with patients exhibiting significant disturbances in emotional, cognitive and physical behaviors.
  • Performs data collection and physical examinations for patients and participates with the RN in the planning of care and implementation of interventions.
  • Supports patient and family through empathetic interaction/education within scope of practice.
  • Identifies and reinforces patient/family teaching plans.
  • Fosters patient participation in the program environment and offers support to patients in coping with an immediate situation.
  • Assists nursing staff in clerical duties.
  • Prepares new charts on admission, fills out routine forms and answers telephones.

Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred Two years' experience in a behavioral healthcare setting: Preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification: Preferred Management of Assaultive Behavior certification: Preferred Facility Specific License/Certifications: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or TEAM-A: Required AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS: Required

Qualifications

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Two years' experience in a behavioral healthcare setting: Preferred

Skills

  • Ability to implement psychosocial interventions.
  • Ability to assist with basic activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Ability to assist in structured therapeutic activities and supportive interactions with patients.
  • Ability to utilize seclusion and restraint interventions, as needed.
  • Ability to conduct therapeutic interventions with patients exhibiting significant disturbances in emotional, cognitive and physical behaviors.
  • Ability to facilitate or co-facilitate therapeutic group process.
  • Ability to facilitate a variety of therapeutic groups including verbal process, patient education and those encouraging nonverbal means of expression and communication.
  • Ability to interpret patient’s behavior or physical symptoms.
  • Ability to perform data collection and physical examinations for patients.
  • Ability to participate in the development of plans for meeting the daily care needs of patients.
  • Ability to conduct required patient monitoring according to policy.
  • Ability to document individual patient care information.
  • Ability to support patient and family through empathetic interaction/education within scope of practice.
  • Ability to identify and reinforce patient/family teaching plans.
  • Ability to foster patient participation in the program environment and offer support to patients in coping with an immediate situation.
  • Ability to assist nursing staff in clerical duties.

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $25.00 to $30.91. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
