About the role
To assist with day-to-day management of patients on an inpatient psychiatric unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse and ultimately a Nurse Manager. The Mental Health Technician will assist with activities of daily living for patients unable to perform these activities, be an integral part of the patient's treatment, and assist with group activities, which may include co-facilitation under the direction of the therapist or nursing staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living for patients
- Support patient treatment and group activities, including co-facilitation of groups
- Collect vital signs, patient information, and perform accuchecks
- Conduct 15-minute safety checks
- Assist in the de-escalation of patients on the unit
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree with no job-related experience or High School Diploma (or GED) with two or more years of experience
- Ability to handle crises calmly and maturely
- Ability to manage confidential patient information responsibly
- Willingness to follow the leadership of senior staff
Qualifications
- Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment if not already certified)
- Safe Crisis Intervention for Patients and Professionals (SCIPP) certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment if not already certified)
