Mental Health Technician (Admissions)
We are seeking dedicated Mental Health Technicians to join our team and support individuals receiving behavioral health treatment in an inpatient setting. Under close supervision, this role plays a key part in delivering both direct and indirect care to patients in need of behavioral health support. This position is in Admissions.
About the role
As a Mental Health Technician, you will help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for patients. You will assist with therapeutic activities, promote wellness, and contribute to de-escalation efforts when needed. Your presence and behavior will serve as a positive example, offering guidance and encouragement to those in your care.
Responsibilities
- Provide Direct and Indirect Care: Support patients individually and in groups within an inpatient behavioral health setting
- Ensure Safety and Well-Being: Participate in de-escalation strategies and help ensure a safe environment that meets patients’ physical and emotional needs
- Serve as a Role Model: Demonstrate effective problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and coping skills
- Assist with Therapeutic Activities: Facilitate or support recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that enhance emotional and mental wellness
Schedule
Three positions available:
- Sun 5:30a-6:30p, Mon 7a-4p, Tue 7a-4p, Fri 7a-4p
- Sun 7a-4p, Wed 7a-4p, Fri 5:30a-6:30p, Sat 7a-4p
- Sun 7p-5a, Wed 7p-5a, Fri 7p-5a, Sat 7p-5a
Weekends may be required.
Pay
- Level I: $14.10 hourly
- Level II: $15.28 hourly
Additional pay opportunities:
- Extra $0.50/hour for working evenings and nights
- Extra $0.75/hour for working weekends and holidays
- Extra $1.00/hour shift pay for any shift worked (stackable with evening/weekend pay)
Requirements
- Level I: No education or experience required
- Level II: One year of behavioral health patient care experience required
- Possesses a strong commitment to patient well-being and safety
- Must believe that recovery is possible
- Upon conditional offer of employment, must submit to a physical examination and meet requirements of occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds
- Must be willing and able to fulfill job-related travel and have a valid driver’s license

Griffin Memorial Hospital (GMH) is located in Norman, Oklahoma, and serves all 77 counties in Oklahoma as a Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) treatment center for adults. GMH is a 120-bed acute psychiatric hospital serving persons aged 18 and over with severe mental illness and provides inpatient care for those in need of mental health and substance abuse services.
