Mental Health Tech: TEMP ASSIGNMENT (PREMIUM PAY) - Night Shift

About the Role
The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de-escalate the patient appropriately. The role involves reporting alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions, and hallucinations, and monitoring safety issues to prevent patient harm. The Technician communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse, assists patients with activities of daily living, and encourages independent behavior while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Follows instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in Hospital policies and procedures.
- Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
- Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions, and hallucinations.
- Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm.
- Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse.
- Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort, and a therapeutic environment.
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and completes the appropriate documentation.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must have a minimum of three years of current experience as a Mental Health Technician (MHT) or Patient Care Specialist (PCS) in a behavioral health hospital.
- Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed preferred.
- Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
Schedule
This is a temporary assignment not to exceed 6 months. Must work 3 – 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, and every other weekend to include holidays.
Pay
$23.00 per hour.
