About the role

Renders professional medical services in the field of psychiatry. Provides specialized medical services requiring completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical work in the medical field of psychiatry.
  • Conducts training or assists in the training of interns and resident physicians.
  • Consults with staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding care of patients and medical and diagnostic work performed.
  • Carries out administrative responsibilities which may include budget preparation for the section, determining equipment and supply needs, carrying out personnel functions, or developing/revising work procedures to expedite workload or improve level of service.
  • Affords assistance in the planning and direction of health programs in the field of psychiatry.

Requirements

  • Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in psychiatry.
  • California State Physician and Surgeon's license authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
  • A valid California Class "C" Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternate method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Physical Class 2 - Light - Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

Special Salary Information

  • Bonus: 5.5% for AMA Certification in Psychiatry.
  • $40 per hour per occasion bonus for High Desert locations.

Special Requirement Information

To compete in this examination process, applicants must have a current active California State Physician and Surgeon's license issued by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California. A copy of this required license must be submitted at the time of filing.

Additional Information

Candidates who are within six months of completion of residency may compete in the examination process; however, final appointment cannot be made until the completion of residency is completed and proof of the required documentation is submitted to the Department of Mental Health, Exams Unit.

Vacancy Information

The resulting eligible register will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Mental Health as they occur. Applicants will be placed on an eligible list/register without indication of relative standing in the examination.
