Mental Health Professional PRN

About the role

MedStar Health is seeking a Mental Health Professional to join our team at St. Mary's Hospital. In this role, you will evaluate patients in the Emergency Department presenting with psychiatric or related problems, act as a consultant to Emergency Department staff, and provide crisis intervention, counseling, support, and referral services to psychiatric patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Performs psychiatric assessments and mental status evaluations on all Emergency Department patients with psychiatric disorders or complaints.
• Consults with the psychiatrist-on-call regarding diagnoses and treatment recommendations for all psychiatric evaluations.
• Maintains open and continuous communication with Emergency Department staff and consults with the Emergency Department physician regarding final diagnosis and disposition plans.
• Plans for hospital admission, transfer to another facility, or follow-up with a local agency for patients.
• Uses age-appropriate games, rewards, and praise when explaining and performing treatments and procedures.
• Facilitates both voluntary and involuntary admissions by contacting insurance companies for preauthorization, giving reports to the accepting unit or facility, and completing all appropriate paperwork.
• Maintains logs on the computer of all patients formally evaluated by Mental Health Professionals in the Emergency Department and documents in the patient medical record.
• Attends Emergency Psychiatric Services staff meetings and other meetings as requested.

Requirements

• MSW (Master of Social Work) or MSN (Master of Science in Nursing), or a master's degree in counseling, Psychology, or a related field, or a Doctoral degree in Psychology or a related field.
• 1-2 years of clinical experience related to mental health.

Pay

This position has a hiring range of USD $29.73 - USD $53.49 per hour.
