About the role

The Mental Health Education (MHE) Specialist supports the implementation and coordination of Josselyn's community-based mental health education and therapeutic programming. This position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality service delivery across Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), the Community Support Specialist (CSS) Program, and Camp Neeka.

Approximately 45% of this role requires maintaining a small caseload of youth receiving Community Support services. The MHE Specialist delivers Medicaid-billable skill-building interventions in home, school, and community settings, helping youth strengthen coping, communication, social-emotional, and independent living skills while collaborating closely with families, therapists, and schools to support treatment goals.

Approximately 30% of the position supports Camp Neeka, including intake coordination, enrollment support, materials preparation, field trip logistics, family communication, and operational planning before and during the camp season.

Approximately 25% of the position supports Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and community outreach, including training coordination, community engagement, marketing support, participant registration, and grant reporting.

Essential responsibilities

Community Support Specialist (30% billable productivity, 15% notes/travel time):

  • Deliver Medicaid-billable Community Support interventions in home, school, and community settings (10 billable hours – 30% productivity)
  • Support youth in practicing and generalizing coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, executive functioning, and independent living skills in real-world environments
  • Collaborate with therapists, families, schools, and community providers to reinforce treatment goals and promote consistency across settings
  • Complete timely and accurate compliant documentation, service notes, and treatment plan updates
  • Monitor client progress toward individualized goals and communicate updates to the treatment team

Mental Health First Aid/Outreach (25%):

  • Coordinate and present Mental Health First Aid trainings from registration through completion
  • Manage participant enrollment, communication, and training materials
  • Support outreach efforts with schools, community organizations, and local partners
  • Assist with marketing initiatives, community events, and educational presentations

Camp Neeka (30%):

  • Coordinate camper intake, enrollment, and onboarding processes
  • Communicate with families regarding registration, required paperwork, schedules, and camp logistics
  • Prepare camp materials, curriculum supplies, and staff resources
  • Coordinate field trip logistics, permission slips, transportation, and scheduling

Hourly breakdown

45% Community Support (15 hours):

  • 10 hours of billable work (5-7 clients)
  • 1 hour clinical meeting
  • 1 hour supervisor (Jackie)
  • 3 hours administrative and transportation

25% Mental Health First Aid/Outreach (9 hours):

  • 1 hour weekly supervision (Director)
  • 1 hour marketing collaboration meeting
  • 2 hours administrative work (emails, outreach, coordination, meetings)
  • 6 hours training (bi-weekly at most)

30% Camp Neeka (10 hours):

  • 1 hour weekly meeting with camp team (add camp check-ins around January)
  • 5 hours of administrative work for field trip planning
  • 4 hours for camp intake and pre-registration support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or education required
  • Experience working in community mental health
  • Experience and demonstrated success in organization and administrative work
  • Experience and success in leading training
  • Three professional references that reflect the ability to be organized and work in the community
