Mental Health Co-Responder Clinician (SO)

About the role

The Mental Health Co-Responder Clinician (CRC) is part of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Mental Health Co-Responder Team. The program aims to support JCSO in addressing behavioral health issues in the community, aiming to divert these issues away from traditional law enforcement responses.

Responsibilities

• Responds to behavioral health calls for service with JCSO deputies and provides clinical crisis intervention services, assessment, evaluations, problem identification, and referrals to appropriate levels of care.
• Aids and/or executes appropriate mental health holds.
• Provides short-term case management with high-utilizing clients to identify problems, look for alternative care options, and help solve problems alongside the client.
• Care coordination and follow-up with clients who are discharged from community agencies to ensure smooth transition back into the community.
• Maintains accurate and timely case management records.
• Provides on-going department wide or training on innovative interventions or improvements to responses to mental health calls.
• Participates in team meetings, in-service training, and clinical supervision as required.
• Participates in proactive, preventative community outreach to members of the community struggling with behavioral health concerns.
• Maintains and vetted a network of resources and referral sources to meet the needs of the client population.
• Engages in community events to inform of Co-Responder services alongside JCSO deputies.
• Attends trainings pertinent to role.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Colorado driver’s license at hire.
• Minimum of three years of experience in co-response or crisis work (e.g. hospitals, crisis centers, withdrawal management, inpatient psychiatric facilities, residential settings, or schools).
• Current license in good standing with the State of Colorado as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Ability to respond to telephone inquiries from team members or department personnel after scheduled working hours.
• Ability to respond to in-progress crisis situations and effectively communicate with team members, law enforcement and people in crisis.

Qualifications

• Co-responders are required to wear ballistic vests provided by JCSO while on-scene.
• The Co-Responder team operates seven days a week with coverage from 6:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M.
• This position requires work outside of normal business hours, weekends, and holidays.

Skills

• Experience or knowledge of law enforcement culture pertaining to chain of command and criminal justice system.
• Experience or knowledge of helping individuals or families navigating serious persistent mental illness (SPMI), personality disorders and other conditions as outlined in the DSM-5.
• Experience with multidisciplinary teams and coordination of care regarding individuals and their families.
• Familiarity with case management and documentation of case notes.
• Certified Addiction Technician (CAT), Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in addition to primary licensure.

Pay

Salary Range: $33.71 to $50.55 per hour
