Job Summary

The Clinician I or II provides skilled assessment and delivery of quality mental health care to youth and family in Community, Home, School, or Residential setting. A Clinician II will lead projects and mentor Clinician I staff as assigned. This is a Monday-Friday, full-time (40 hours) position with a schedule flexible based on client need, requiring availability for an on-call rotation after an initial training period. This position covers Steuben & Chemung Counties with access to reliable transportation being required as much of the role is mobile/on-the-road, with mileage eligible for a generous reimbursement. When not meeting with clients, much of the role can be remote/work-from-home after the initial training period if desired, with roughly 10% of the role being required to be in-office at our Bath, NY Liberty Street location.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assess Hillside youth and family needs through clinical interventions to treat and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Create, implement, evaluate, and modify, as needed, individual treatment plans to meet assessed client’s unique needs as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assess and facilitate referrals to Hillside services and resources.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy, as well as family therapy, based on client needs.
  • Collaborate with other informal supports, community, and mental health providers to provide needed services to clients.
  • Develop, maintain, and retain all required documentation in a compliant and timely manner, including but not limited to, clinical assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Take on more complex cases and work independently.
  • Supervise interns and provide team mentoring and clinical guidance to Clinician I and other staff.
  • Lead projects and provide clinical consultation and training to clinical staff as assigned.
  • May provide transportation for youth as needed to appointments, meetings, or appearances.
  • Ensure Hillside policies, procedures and all applicable governmental laws/regulations/guidelines are followed.
  • Residential Treatment Facilities: Community based responsibilities (i.e., driving to families' homes to support in home family work) for Family Therapy.
  • Youth ACT and Therapeutic Foster Care programs: On call responsibilities as scheduled.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Residential Treatment Facilities Family Therapy programs: Previous family experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience post Master's degree is required.

Special Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted license in NYS required for one of the following: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT).
  • A Clinician I only may be considered if not licensed, but is eligible to obtain a limited permit upon hire and successfully pass licensing exam by the end of permit period.
  • LMSWs pursuing LCSW licensure must complete all required supervised hours within three (3) years of full-time employment or six (6) years of part-time employment.
  • LMSW role can only supervise BSW’s and first year MSW students (and second year non-clinical track).
  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Residential Treatment Facilities, Children’s Health and Behavioral Health Services and Youth ACT programs: CPR certification required or obtained within 60 days of hire.

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of services provided both by the Agency and by external service providers and maintain contacts as needed in order to efficiently access care for clients.
  • Ability to advocate for children/youth/families in order to achieve the best possible child/youth/family outcomes; communicates reasonable expectations and facilitates the achievement of results.
  • Understand the payment process for services and assure that services sought and provided are consistent with payment process qualifications and rules.
  • Develop, maintain and utilize a thorough knowledge of the legal and social rights of children, youth and parents to assure that these rights are understood and protected as needed.
  • Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct towards all.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to work a variable scheduling including evenings and weekends.

  • Continuous balancing (up to 8 hours)
  • Occasional balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching forward or down, reaching overhead, running, and twisting (up to 2.5 hours)
  • Weekly lifting up to 50 lbs. (community-based staff may be required to lift an empty wheelchair weighing up to 50 lbs.), 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis
  • Weekly carrying up to 55 lbs. approximately 10-100 ft., 10-15 lbs. on a daily basis
  • Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (approximately 1-2.5 hrs.)
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals is apparent.
  • Protective clothing or equipment as required: Close toed shoes; Protective Shields, Universal Precaution PPE, Gloves for toileting and food preparation.
  • Ability to change positions as needed.

Pay

  • Minimum pay rate: Clinician I - $67,500, Clinician II - $67,500
  • Maximum pay rate: Clinician I - $85,000, Clinician II - $92,000
  • This pay rate may include a Regional and/or Department premium.
