Mental Health Clinician (LGBTQIA+ Focus) Professional Expert- Licensed Professionals

About the role

The Licensed Professional Expert – Mental Health Clinician will provide mental health services to a diverse student population, with a specialized focus on supporting LGBTQIA+ students.

Responsibilities

• Provide short-term, solution-focused individual and group counseling to students experiencing mental health challenges.
• Conduct clinical assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide appropriate interventions tailored to the needs of LGBTQIA+ students.
• Offer crisis intervention and risk assessment, including suicide prevention and safety planning.
• Refer students to community resources and coordinate care with off-campus providers when necessary.
• Work closely with campus departments, such as the PRIDE Center, ACCESS, Basic Needs and Student Health Services, to provide holistic support.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
• Stay informed about current best practices, policies, and research related to LGBTQIA+ mental health care.
• Develop and facilitate workshops, psychoeducational groups, and presentations on mental health topics relevant to LGBTQIA+ students.
• Collaborate with student organizations, faculty, and staff to promote mental health awareness and resources.
• Provide consultation and training to faculty and staff on best practices for supporting LGBTQIA+ students.

Requirements

• Master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
• Active and unrestricted licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or Clinical Psychologist) in California.
• Minimum two years of clinical experience, preferably in a higher education, community mental health, or LGBTQIA+ affirming setting.
• Demonstrated experience providing mental health support to LGBTQIA+ individuals, including an understanding of intersectionality, gender identity, and minority stress.
• Strong knowledge of healing centered engagement, culturally responsive, and gender-affirming care.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
• Commitment to confidentiality, professional ethics, and adherence to legal guidelines in mental health practice.
• Knowledge of Title IX, FERPA, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations affecting college students.
