Mental Health Child Therapist

About the Role

The Mental Health Therapist, under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, will provide trauma-informed, culturally sensitive therapeutic counseling services to individuals across the lifespan, with a focus on people with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disorders and coexisting mental health conditions in children under 16. The goal is to alleviate presenting symptoms and enhance healthy coping strategies to help individuals and families function at their highest potential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial psychosocial assessments to identify treatment needs, client strengths, and relevant information for comprehensive behavioral health services.
• Develop and update an initial service plan upon intake, identifying short- and long-term treatment goals, and review progress at least quarterly with the client and/or guardian.
• Explain treatment services, including clients’ rights and responsibilities, confidentiality, fee agreements (if applicable), and consent for treatment.
• Provide individual, family, and/or group therapeutic counseling services as appropriate.
• Document therapeutic services, client/collateral contacts, and other service delivery via electronic health records according to organizational standards.
• Make referrals for needed services, including psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
• Prepare written reports for court, school, and other agencies as necessary.
• Participate in client conferences, hearings, and meetings as required.
• Engage in clinical supervision to review cases and clinical issues impacting client care.
• Uphold HIPAA/confidentiality standards and regulations as dictated by the State of Maryland and agency policies.
• Participate in rotating on-call duties among clinicians.
• Work one evening per week seeing patients.
• Meet productivity and key performance indicator (KPI) targets to ensure high-quality, efficient, and client-centered care.
• Complete documentation within 48 hours of each visit.
• Actively participate in treatment team meetings to ensure timely and appropriate client services.
• Complete agency personnel and client paperwork as applicable.
• Provide statistics for funders, including service hours, client outcomes, and demographics.
• Participate in office staff meetings and serve on committees within and outside the agency as appropriate.
• Maintain awareness of community resources and contact with local stakeholder organizations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or related field.
• Maryland licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) or equivalent (e.g., Licensed Certified Professional Counselor, LCPC).
• Knowledge of human developmental stages, trauma theory, and symptomology.
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Basic computer skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with children impacted by mental illness, trauma, and/or substance use.
• Training or experience utilizing evidence-based practices relevant to trauma-informed care.
• Knowledge and experience working with children who have Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

Maryland Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or equivalent (e.g., Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor, LGPC) may be considered if a Clinical Supervisor is available for direct supervision.

Pay

$85,000.00–$110,000.00 per year.

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday through Friday.
• One evening per week seeing patients.
• On-site in Belcamp/Aberdeen, Maryland (not remote eligible).
