About the role
The On Call, Mental Health Associate provides skills training and CANS Screening to children and adolescents ages 3 to 18 experiencing mental health issues and behavioral problems in an outpatient, community based, or home visit settings.
Responsibilities
- Aid with CANS Screening.
- Collect supplementary information like medical records or school reports.
- Conduct individual, family, parenting, and group skills training sessions based on current evidence-based practices.
- Perform case management.
- Collaborate with physicians, staff, families, caregivers, teachers, and community partners to address concerns and work with the Child & Family team to identify and support clients and their families.
- Implement evidence-based interventions tailored to clients' interests, culture, abilities, strengths, and needs, according to the individual service and support plan.
- Maintain awareness of community resources and help clients and their families access these resources.
- Consult with supervisor on cases involving potential abuse or other family problems affecting clients' development and well-being.
- Train staff, caregivers, and families on mental health, addiction, and behavior management.
- Act as a client advocate to coordinate required services or obtain information about emergency/crisis situations and relay information to appropriate team members.
- Document and maintain client records to ensure compliance with agency and contract guidelines and confidentiality within specified timelines.
- Complete documentation in the electronic health record system.
- Travel between sites or in the community. May be required to transport clients in a personal vehicle and/or LifeWorks vehicle.
Qualifications
- A valid and active QMHA credential certification through MHACBO.
- A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a mental health-related field, or at least 3 years of prior experience working with the related population in the counseling field.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, understand mental health assessments, treatment, and service terminology, case management, confidentiality, and individual, group, family, and other counseling techniques; program policies and procedures for services and supports identified in an Individual Services and Supports Plan.
- Previous experience in a broad range of interventions and mental health skills training specific to children, adolescents, and families.
