About the Role

Arbour Hospital in Jamaica Plain is a specialized behavioral health facility providing high-quality care and service excellence across a continuum of behavioral health services. With a history dating back to 1909, we serve the greater Boston area with a patient-focused approach, treating primary psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. Our medical staff includes psychiatrists with an average of 20 years of practice at our facility.

The Mental Health Associate is a vital part of Arbour Hospital’s treatment team. This role requires working every other weekend, with a competitive shift differential for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Provide routine patient care in a psychiatric setting
  • Document and communicate unusual or erratic changes in client behaviors
  • Assist with patient groups and activities
  • Work with culturally and generationally diverse populations to meet their individual needs
  • Provide trauma-informed and age-specific care
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries and utilize crisis intervention techniques

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • College students who have obtained or are pursuing a degree in behavioral health, psychology, or human services are preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Impeccable judgment and professionalism
  • Ability to maintain composure in a crisis situation
  • Physically and mentally fit to care for patients of all ages
  • Highly empathetic with strong emotional and social intelligence
