Pay

$15.00/hr (Membership Trainee), increasing to $15.65/hr upon completion of training as a Membership Specialist.

Schedule

Mornings, evenings (4:00pm - 10:00pm), and weekend availability required. Training will be conducted during the day.

About the Role

The YMCA of the Suncoast is seeking a magnetic, meticulous, and mindful Member Service Representative to elevate our customer service efforts. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, creating a friendly and welcoming environment, and contributing to membership sales through tours, promotions, and program information. Under the direction of the Membership Director/Coordinator, the Membership Trainee will work toward meeting all requirements of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all requirements of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days of hire.
  • Build relationships with members and potential members by creating a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Educate members and prospective members about YMCA services and connect them to the organization.
  • Introduce yourself to members, learn their names, and foster connections among members with similar interests.
  • Assist members and prospective members at the welcome desk, including:
    • Processing new memberships and financial/payment information in Active.
    • Creating Photo ID cards for facility members.
    • Conducting facility tours and follow-ups to assess members' needs.
    • Handling phone inquiries regarding membership and program information.
    • Inputting program registrations and assisting with program questions.
    • Filing necessary paperwork.
  • Perform various clerical duties and help develop/participate in Member Appreciation/Retention activities.
  • Assist with the annual membership data audit.
  • Maintain a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity and ensuring compliance with the code of conduct.
  • Keep supplies organized, maintain facility cleanliness, and care for equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 17 years.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required; college degree in Marketing or Communications preferred.
  • At least 1 year of previous customer service experience.
  • Must complete the following trainings upon hire:
    • Intro to Y's Cause & Culture
    • Y's Way to Service & Engagement
    • I Hear You: Service with CARE
  • Must work toward meeting the criteria of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days of hire, including:
    • Foundations of Listen First with Listen First Skills Assessment
    • Get SMART
    • Three Keys to Successful Family Engagement
    • Living our Cause for Frontline Leaders
    • Cause Driven Tour Workshop with Post Workshop Evaluation
    • Active.net Skills Assessment
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in personal computer use, data entry, and Microsoft Office (must type 30 words per minute).
  • Strong organizational skills and a positive attitude.
  • Auditory, visual, and verbal abilities to communicate effectively via phone and in person.
  • Ability to remain professional when interacting with members, customers, and co-workers.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • May be required to lift and carry up to 30 lbs (e.g., boxes of supplies).
  • Must stand and/or sit for extended periods while demonstrating manual dexterity for phone, computer, and equipment use.
  • Capable of receiving and following detailed instructions.
