About the role

Microsoft AI is looking for a Member of Technical Staff – Full Stack – Engineering Manager to help build the next wave of capabilities for our personalized AI assistant, Copilot. You will lead high-performing full-stack teams in delivering robust, scalable, and secure software solutions while driving the development of Copilot’s capabilities. This role requires deep engineering expertise, people leadership, user-focused design, and operational excellence, with hands-on coding and technical contribution as a key part of your leadership.

You will work across the full evaluation platform, including data sampling, AI data collection and processing, data analysis/evaluation, and insights. Responsibilities span the full stack—database backend, middle-tier services, front-end browser automation, statistical analysis, and creating consumable dashboards—as well as prompt engineering and extensive use of AI tools.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, and lead a team of software engineers responsible for delivering secure, reliable, and scalable products.
  • Ship AI-powered experiences that will shape how millions of people interact with AI in the future.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and product leadership to prioritize features and deliver a world-class AI companion.
  • Write and review code, ensuring quality, maintainability, and performance while setting high standards for engineering excellence.
  • Guide architecture and design efforts by leading discussions, creating proposals and design documents, and ensuring solutions meet business, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Build and maintain testing strategies, ensuring comprehensive coverage, effective automation, and scalable test frameworks that support continuous integration and deployment.
  • Drive implementation of features and systems, breaking down long-term goals into clear milestones, aligning with release plans, and ensuring cross-team coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of people management experience.

Pay

Software Engineering M5: The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. For the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Software Engineering M6: The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. For the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Schedule

Starting January 26, 2026, employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
