About the role
We design biological brains. Compile maps the modifiability landscape of complete connectomes, extracts gene-guided circuits, reverse-compiles to growth programs, and grows functional circuits from specification alone. 22 results across 2 species. The computational loop is closed. We are a small team in New York looking for engineers who want to build the infrastructure for connectome-scale circuit design and growth program generation. This is an opportunity to build something that matters.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale the directed evolution engine for connectome-scale edge sweeps
- Implement sequential activity-dependent growth simulation (the pipeline that produced nav score 851 vs FlyWire 577)
- Build the compile.now platform (Next.js, Go, React Three Fiber)
- Scale evolution, growth simulation, and edge sweep infrastructure across AWS
- Build real-time 3D brain visualization, growth program tools, and circuit library APIs
Requirements
- Deep technical intuition and can learn new domains quickly
- Comfortable working across the stack: PyTorch, distributed compute, data pipelines, web
- Can ship production code fast while maintaining quality
- Want to work on hard problems at a small company with a ship fast culture
Nice to Have
- Experience with scientific computing, neural simulation, or agent-based growth models
- Background in connectomics, computational neuroscience, or bioinformatics
- Experience with GPU-accelerated PyTorch models or distributed systems
- Publications or open-source work in relevant areas
