About the role

This role brings Perplexity’s commitment to AI to the heart of their data operations. The team is already leveraging AI across various workflows, but there's a significant opportunity to scale and innovate further. With buy-in from leadership, the goal is to build a dedicated team focused on pushing the boundaries of AI integration in data science.

Responsibilities

  • Accelerate the AI-native data workflow - existing processes will be refined and standardized for broader adoption.
  • Build AI agents capable of conducting full analyses autonomously, from hypothesis formation to recommendation drafting.
  • Create the semantic layer for the warehouse, enabling accurate querying by AI systems.
  • Develop self-healing pipelines to detect and resolve data issues proactively.
  • Construct the infrastructure that transforms a smaller team into one operating at 10x its current capacity.
  • Collaborate with product and business teams to identify high-leverage problems and develop solutions.
  • Prototype AI-powered workflows and iteratively improve accuracy and user experience.
  • Deploy AI-driven experiment analysis tools that provide actionable insights for product teams.
  • Transform the data team into a product-oriented unit, creating internal data products that stakeholders across the organization can easily use.

Requirements

  • 6-8+ years of experience in data science, analytics engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong product intuition and ability to work closely with product and business teams.
  • Expertise in SQL, including the ability to design and maintain data models and work with warehouses.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, particularly with dbt, and dealing with data quality issues.
  • Basic software engineering skills to build and ship tools, comfortable with Python and able to write maintainable code.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for AI, having built or experimented with AI agent frameworks, RAG systems, or similar projects.
  • A builder mentality, eager to automate manual processes and iterate quickly.
  • Autonomy to define the roadmap and execute initiatives without extensive oversight.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with dbt for building and maintaining production models.
  • Experience with Snowflake administration and optimization.
  • Experience building Slack bots, internal CLI tools, or developer productivity tools that were widely adopted.
  • Experience with A/B testing and experimentation, including designing experiments and analyzing results.
  • Early-stage startup experience, ideally within an AI-focused company.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of SQL and data modeling.
  • Experience with data pipeline management and optimization.
  • Software engineering skills to build and deploy production-ready tools.
  • Knowledge of AI agent frameworks and frontier models.
  • Ability to work independently and set clear goals.
