About the role
The Member & Visitor Services Representative plays a crucial role in the Member and Visitor Services department (MVS) of the Museum. They greet, assist, and warmly welcome all Museum visitors, ensuring a positive experience.
Responsibilities
- Handles General Admission, Exhibition and Public Program ticket sales, membership sales and renewals
- Takes phone inquiries, troubleshoots and resolves visitors' needs, and provides general museum information
- Greets members and visitors cheerfully in person and on the phone, providing a warm welcome
- Answers questions and provides information about the Museum’s programs and exhibitions
- Develops expertise in membership program and benefits, ticketing and admissions policies, and public program offerings
- Validates membership cards, digital and printed tickets for entry at Museum and Special Exhibition entrances
- Actively promotes memberships, signs up new and renewing members, and handles membership customer service needs
- Answers telephone inquiries and processes resulting orders in a welcoming and professional manner
- Makes outbound calls to follow up on requests or resolve outstanding questions or orders
- Assists in welcoming and checking in all school, community, and adult groups, focusing on the accuracy of financial transactions
- Manages line capacity in lobbies and ticketed gallery spaces
- Develops proficiency on ticketing and membership database Tessitura
- Performs other related duties as required or directed by MVS management
Requirements
- High School diploma, Associate's degree or higher
- 2+ years of customer service experience, preferably in a hospitality, retail, or cultural organization role
- Ability to interact with a diverse audience, in terms of age, economic status, and cultural background
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot routine visitor-related issues calmly and professionally
- Judgment in escalating challenging situations to the appropriate manager
- Professional relationships with a diverse set of constituents including staff, volunteers, MFA members, and visitors
- Tessitura experience preferred but not required
- Cash handling experience, ability to learn and apply new technologies
- Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and most holidays
- Standing for extended periods
- Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in crowded environments
- Adherence to the Museum's dress code and other departmental and policy guidelines
Benefits
The Museum offers full-time, hourly positions starting at $21.84 per hour. This position is affiliated with the United Auto Worker's union and is an equal opportunity employer.
