MEDscience Teacher & Program Coordinator

About the Role

HMS MEDscience has an opening for an experienced team teacher for its high school biology-based enrichment program serving a diverse population of students. This lead teacher will teach up to 3-4 classes per day in a co-teaching team and serve as the primary point of contact for partner teachers at a wide range of school partners. Responsibilities include curriculum alignment, program scheduling and logistics, and oversight of all educators involved in program delivery (including co-teachers, part-time staff, and volunteers).

Teacher/Program Coordinators typically manage 1-2 additional projects/programs beyond direct classroom and partnership responsibilities. These projects may include curriculum development, operational functions (such as scheduling, inventory management, or data analysis), or other strategic initiatives. The role operates with a high degree of independence while reporting to MEDscience leadership.

This position also plays a key role in training new teachers through one-on-one and small group sessions, observations, and debriefs. The role focuses primarily on MEDscience’s clinical program but may expand to other areas such as laboratory science, forensic science, and biomedical engineering over time.

Responsibilities

• Lead Teacher: Teach in a co-teaching team, planning and delivering semester-long and module programming for school-year and summer programs. Use MEDscience pedagogy to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and interest in STEM fields. Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs while aligning with program goals.
• Partnership Coordination: Serve as the primary contact for partner teachers, designing individualized curriculum, building calendars, managing logistics, and overseeing educators (including part-time staff and volunteers). Provide updates and recommendations to program leadership.
• Project Management: Manage 1-2 additional projects, such as curriculum development or operational functions (e.g., scheduling, inventory, data analysis). Plan, implement, and communicate project progress, including strategic recommendations to leadership.
• Teacher Training: Train new teachers through small group sessions, observations, and post-session debriefs to provide feedback and support.

Working Conditions

• Teach 3-4 in-person sessions daily (75 minutes each).
• Assist in setting up simulation equipment and clinical skills training, which may involve lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight.

Requirements

• Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Additional Qualifications and Skills:
  • College-level understanding of biology and anatomy/physiology.
  • Prior high school-level teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Open-minded, adaptable, and comfortable with dynamic work settings.
  • Commitment to learning, growth, and contributing to a mission-driven organization.
  • Experience in a patient-facing healthcare profession is a plus.
  • Experience or openness to training in lab techniques such as ELISA, PCR, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Ability to teach in Spanish preferred.

Schedule

35 hours per week. This position requires in-person work at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location.
