Medium Voltage Distribution Electrician

About the Role

A medium voltage distribution electrician assembles, evaluates, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning equipment using appropriate spare parts, wiring, and servicing. Advises on management of equipment, reviews wiring blueprints, conducts maintenance repairs, and rectifies system failures. Operates medium voltage electrical systems, inspects wiring and fixtures, interprets technical drawings, and diagnoses faulty wiring. Tests generators and backup systems, upgrades electrical components, and facilitates ordering of needed parts while maintaining environmentally compliant equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, evaluate, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
• Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment using spare parts, wiring, and servicing.
• Advise on management of equipment and review wiring blueprints.
• Conduct maintenance repairs and rectify system failures in medium voltage electrical systems.
• Inspect electrical systems, including wiring, fixtures, and appliances, to identify faults or hazards.
• Interpret technical drawings to determine electrical system layouts and diagnose faulty wiring.
• Test generators, backup systems, and electrical components; deploy upgrades as needed.
• Operate and maintain environmentally compliant equipment.
• Document and escalate problems to the management team.
• Test electrical systems using voltmeters and ohmmeters, ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards.
• Install and preserve the functionality of wires, plugs, panel boards, switchgear, and switchboards.
• Respond to fault requests, provide reliability suggestions, and commission new electrical facilities equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of industrial medium voltage experience.
• Three years of general electrical troubleshooting knowledge.
• Ability to obtain CPR/AED training.
• Work in heavy personal protective equipment, including Level 4 arc flash protection suit, in high temperatures.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and pull 250 lbs at least once a day.

Qualifications

Requirements may be obtained through a combination of industry-relevant job experience, internships, schoolwork, classes, or research.

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of industrial medium voltage experience.
  • Three years of general electrical troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED training.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working experience covered by National Electrical Code (NEC70), Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance (NFPA 70B), and Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E).
  • Knowledge in reading single-line electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Experience with electrical metering and testing equipment, including multi-meter, Megger, High-Pot, ground fault detector, VLF, and IR camera.
  • Ability to recognize system and equipment deficiencies and take corrective action.
  • 3+ years of experience with all aspects of electrical maintenance and troubleshooting of facilities equipment and systems.
  • Maintenance knowledge of industrial electrical facility systems, such as electrical distribution (up to 15kv), switchgear, generators, and variable frequency drives.

Schedule

This position operates on a compressed work week, Shift 5 schedule. It is a daytime, front half of the week schedule that runs from Sunday to Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays, with hours targeted from about 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day.

Pay

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $62,090.00 - $120,110.00 USD (Hourly Role). The range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
