About the role
This position operates under general supervision with no responsibilities for reports, records, or supervisory duties. Several decisions requiring interpretation and judgment are made weekly. There is little to no public contact.
Responsibilities
- Operates one or more of the following pieces of equipment and vehicles: front end loader, backhoe, commercial mower, water tanker truck, and dump truck.
- Cleans canals and storm drains; clears right-of-way for roads and canals.
- Grades dirt streets, prepares dirt streets for paving, and repairs road shoulders.
- Drives dump trucks to pick up and deliver materials, debris, and supplies.
- Services vehicles with oil, gas, water, and grease; notifies mechanic of any needed repairs.
- Picks up litter manually and with heavy equipment.
- Performs related duties as required.

Work Conditions / Physical Demands
- Some unusual working hours, irregular hours, or shifts.
- May involve occasional travel and exposure to hazards that could result in serious injury or death.

- Requires little physical effort; infrequent lifting greater than 5-15 lbs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (can be acquired within nine months of employment if not already possessed).
- Approximately 1 to 2 years of experience in a related field, supplemented by special schooling if necessary.
- Sufficient knowledge to perform effectively with little supervision in varied or irregular work situations.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
