About the role

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is hiring Medication Aides to join their team. This is a full-time DAYS position with 9.5 hour shifts on either Wednesday - Saturday or Sunday - Wednesday. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a state-approved Medication Aide program. Essential duties include preparing and administering prescribed medications, ensuring ordering and restocking of medications and supplies, promoting and maintaining the safety and security of the clinical environment, operating clinical equipment, documenting accurately and timely in the electronic health record, and adhering to infection control measures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and administers prescribed medications as allowed under the regulatory board and/or state law
  • Ensures ordering and restocking of medications and supplies
  • Promotes and is accountable for the safety and security of the clinical environment through conscientious observations and sensitive item/contraband control
  • Operates a variety of clinical equipment dictated by the type of equipment available in the assigned work unit
  • Informs supervisor of any violations of security or safety through the report writing process
  • Documents in an accurate and timely manner into the electronic health record
  • Preserves confidentiality
  • Adheres to infection control measures
  • Attends training programs as assigned, including successfully completing the Basic Training Academy and Threat Pattern Recognition self-defense course

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a state-approved Medication Aide program
  • Knowledge of: the principles and techniques of patient care; corrections and medical policies and procedures; care and use of medical equipment and supplies
  • Ability to monitor patient behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medication; follow oral and written instructions; prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports; perform delegated tasks by physicians or licensed nurses; establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff

Pay

$18.00 to $21.17 per hour, depending on experience, plus $5.00 night/$1.50 weekend differential and potential for overtime.

Schedule

This is a full-time DAYS position with 9.5 hour shifts on either Wednesday - Saturday or Sunday - Wednesday.
