What You Will Do
- Obtains an accurate and complete admission medication list via a face-to-face interview with patients.
- Note drug name, dose, frequency, compliance, and last dose taken.
- Note any known drug allergies and reactions.
- Collaborate with alternative information sources such as family, physician office, nursing home, or retail pharmacy.
- Communicate effectively and use advanced interviewing skills to conduct the medication history interview.
- Solve problems and apply critical thinking skills in obtaining admission medications lists for various patient populations.
- Apply advanced computer skills to gather and document the patient’s admission medication list.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be a registered pharmacy technician or be eligible for technician/trainee registration in the State of Iowa.
- This must be completed prior to start of employment.
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 6 months of employment.
- Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintain current status.
- Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renew this requirement every 5 years.
- Two or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician (retail preferred) or allied health professional, with knowledge of medications including brand/generic names, available dosages, frequencies, and indications.
