Qualifications/Skills Needed
- Holds a High School Diploma or GED
- Licensed C.N.A.
- Certified in the medication aide competency exam for the State of Tennessee
- Experience in senior resident services, health care, or customer service preferred
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Experience with older adults and knowledge of the aging process preferred
- A flexible work schedule required
Medication Aide Duties
- Administers prescribed medications to residents under supervision of a licensed nurse or DON
- Verifies identity of resident and records medication details on specified forms or records
- Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or application
- Documents reasons why prescribed drugs are not administered
- May receive and restock medications for administration to residents
- Maintains clean and organized medication cart and room
- Communicates with families, residents, and the interdisciplinary team as appropriate
- Completes shift reports and documentation in records per company policy
Physical Demands
- Heavy physical demands classified
- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift/move objects
- Constant standing and walking required
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning, and stretching
- Finger and hand dexterity required
- Visual and hearing acuity essential
- The ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions necessary
- The ability to perform basic mathematical computations required
