Medication Aide

Qualifications/Skills Needed

• Holds a High School Diploma or GED
• Licensed C.N.A.
• Certified in the medication aide competency exam for the State of Tennessee
• Experience in senior resident services, health care, or customer service preferred
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Experience with older adults and knowledge of the aging process preferred
• A flexible work schedule required

Medication Aide Duties

• Administers prescribed medications to residents under supervision of a licensed nurse or DON
• Verifies identity of resident and records medication details on specified forms or records
• Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or application
• Documents reasons why prescribed drugs are not administered
• May receive and restock medications for administration to residents
• Maintains clean and organized medication cart and room
• Communicates with families, residents, and the interdisciplinary team as appropriate
• Completes shift reports and documentation in records per company policy

Physical Demands

• Heavy physical demands classified
• Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift/move objects
• Constant standing and walking required
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning, and stretching
• Finger and hand dexterity required
• Visual and hearing acuity essential
• The ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions necessary
• The ability to perform basic mathematical computations required
