Responsibilities
- Provides assistance with distribution of medications to residents under supervision of the charge nurse.
- Affords support to Care Assistant responsibilities as needed.
- Completes work assignments from the Charge Nurse, including medication pass, vital signs and blood glucose readings, and other duties within scope of practice.
- Stays updated on resident care plans, reviews report sheets and new interventions at the start of each shift and as needed.
- Observes residents and notes their physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc.
- Acts as a leader and mentor to fellow team members.
- Reports any changes or unusual findings to the Charge Nurse.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Preferred high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in working with the elderly population preferred, but not required.
- Certified as a Medication Aide in the State of Iowa required.
- Knowledgeable about the medication or research information and the special physical conditions of the resident that might affect how medication would react.
Qualifications
- Must follow the CDC legal and ethical guidelines set by the state, resident’s rights, and organization for the distribution of medication to residents.
- Must be knowledgeable about the medication or research information.
- Must be able to observe residents and note their physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc.
