About the role
The Medical Writer I position is responsible for creating technical and medical content that meets information needs related to laboratory testing. This role collaborates with medical directors and other ARUP personnel to complete writing assignments according to set processes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Develops, edits, critically analyzes, revises, and maintains technical and medical content for both print and digital platforms according to established standards
- Maintains effective communication and collaboration with teammates and personnel throughout the organization
- Collates, analyzes, and organizes source materials from, and coordinates the review of drafts with, applicable ARUP employees
- Communicates, updates, and corresponds frequently and as required while working with a team of writers, copy editors, and medical staff
- Demonstrates adaptability by embracing change with a positive attitude
- Demonstrates ability to make sound professional judgments related to content based on previous medical writing experience and content expertise
- Contributes to maintenance of a library of all content and utilizes a content management system and/or other tools for output publishing and/or interfacing with other systems
- Provides input on and assesses functional and efficient workflow for content production
- Ensures that audits of content and reporting are performed and reviewed periodically
- Provides feedback on ways to make the department more efficient and more effective
- Assists with the development of department policies and procedures as needed
- Stays informed of all procedures and procedural changes
- Maintains confidentiality of laboratory results/information according to ARUP policies
- Demonstrates professional demeanor in personal appearance and behavior in all work-related interactions, including remote meetings
- Participates in relevant learning opportunities at ARUP and with related professional organizations
Requirements
- Frequently and effectively communicate with others
- Pick, pinch, type or otherwise work, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
- Have close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance
- Occasionally bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
- Occasionally extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Use personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies
Qualifications
- Experience in medical writing
- Content expertise in medical and technical fields
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of content management systems and/or other tools for output publishing and/or interfacing with other systems
- Adaptability and ability to embrace change
- Confidentiality and professionalism
