Medical Transport Detention Officer (Armed)

About the role

Responsible for providing secure armed transportation and supervision of residents requiring medical or healthcare services while ensuring compliance with detention standards, security protocols, and transportation procedures. Maintains resident accountability, operational safety, and coordinates with healthcare providers and detention staff during all transport activities.

Responsibilities

• Escort and transport residents safely to medical facilities, ensuring security and accountability.
• Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections before and after trips.
• Monitor resident behavior and medical conditions, responding to emergencies and disturbances.
• Apply restraints per policies and security protocols.
• Coordinate schedules and logistics with healthcare and detention personnel.
• Maintain accurate logs and documentation related to transportation activities.
• Search residents, vehicles, and equipment for contraband or safety issues.
• Operate communication devices and emergency notification systems.
• Respond to emergencies, vehicle incidents, and operational disruptions.
• Collaborate with medical providers, detention leadership, and law enforcement agencies.
• Ensure compliance with confidentiality, security, and transportation regulations.

Requirements

• Active Texas armed security license.
• Minimum of one year experience as a detention/correctional officer, law enforcement, or military police.
• High school diploma or equivalent; substitution with related degree possible.
• Legal US work authorization and ability to pass background, medical, and drug screenings.
• Strong communication, observation, report-writing, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and work flexible shifts.
• Employees may face extreme weather, fumes, chemicals, loud noise, and physical demands such as standing, lifting up to 49 pounds, and using gear to move items. Must be able to perform various physical activities including climbing, kneeling, and reaching.
