Position Highlights

Shift Schedule: Full time; Days, Monday-Friday, no weekends or holidays

About the Role

Department: Laboratory
Location: Winston Campus

Responsibilities

  • Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.
  • Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions.
  • Affords assistance in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections.
  • Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Requisitions and maintains inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations.
  • Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work.
  • Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program, five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
  • Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.
  • Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures.
  • Frequent exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and the risk of bloodborne diseases.
  • Exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, wastes, odorous chemicals and specimens.
  • Exposure to a variety of electro-mechanical/power equipment.
  • Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals.
  • Exposure to long irregular hours.
