About the role
The Medical Technologist PRN at LewisGale Medical Center is responsible for directing daily operations, demonstrating technical expertise, fostering positive relationships, ensuring efficiency, managing specialty areas, maintaining quality control, and providing comprehensive training.
Responsibilities
- Directs daily operations including decision-making, problem-solving, error identification, and corrective action.
- Demonstrates technical expertise and contributes to good employee relationships.
- Ensures maximum efficiency in personnel use and controls departmental supply expense.
- Demonstrates and encourages innovation and creativity, responds to changes in clinical laboratory medicine, shares workload, manages specialty areas, and complies with general laboratory standards.
- Develops, writes, reviews, and implements procedures and policies, prepares laboratory for inspections, maintains good communication, respects patient confidentiality, and demonstrates proficiency in laboratory computer tasks.
- Provides training to employees as necessary, administers instrument maintenance, ensures quality control, troubleshoots instruments, understands and participates in QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan, and infection control plan, and adheres to lab billing compliance plan.
- Initiates and documents patient teaching, including family and/or significant others.
- Provides care and assesses data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Requirements
- Registry eligible upon hire and obtain registry within 24 months.
- Graduate of accredited school of Clinical Laboratory Science.
- ASCP/AMT eligible upon hire and obtain registry within 24 months.
- Pending or graduate Bachelor of Science Degree, related science (if pending, needs to be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Qualifications
- Experience required: Registry eligible upon hire and obtain registry within 24 months.
- Education required: Pending or graduate Bachelor of Science Degree, related science (if pending, needs to be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Skills
Proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks, ability to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served, and adherence to laboratory standards and regulations.

$27.36 - $38.30 / hour
