Description

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Trinity Health, is seeking a part-time Med Tech to join their team. The schedule is 24 hours per week, evening shift, every other weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts diagnostic laboratory tests to detect, analyze, and treat various diseases and medical conditions.
  • Uses microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers, and computer equipment to perform tests providing detailed information about conditions.
  • Performs standard laboratory procedures consistently, ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Works independently in assigned areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, and Microbiology.
  • Operates information systems used in laboratory services, including Meditech lab system for specimen processing, ordering, resulting, inquiry functions, and troubleshooting.
  • Adheres to downtime procedures and is aware of centralized help desk notification process.
  • Produces lab tests efficiently and organizes work effectively, prioritizing tasks and adhering to STAT protocols.
  • Assigns appropriate priority to samples, ensures critical and STAT results are attended to immediately, and maintains turnaround times by managing an organized work process.
  • Shares and demonstrates technical skills, assists in problem-solving, and participates in continuing education and inservices.
  • Prepares solutions and reagents, monitors temperature controls, and follows send-out procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, departments, and customers, answering the phone professionally and responding to requests promptly.
  • Assists in inventory management, prepares for and participates in inspections, and contributes to all areas of the lab.
  • Flexibly adjusts schedule to cover department needs and accommodate current staffing/volume trends.

Qualifications

  • Sufficient knowledge of QC, protocol, and procedures, bringing exceptions to manager's attention.
  • Knowledge of the Point of Care Management Program and understanding of its operation.
  • Adequate patient identification and specimen labeling skills, adhering to policies.
  • Positive communication skills, teamwork, and willingness to assist co-workers.
