Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs and evaluates variety of technical procedures in the Blood Bank section, including cross matches, type and screen, issuing units, antibody panels, DAT workups, donor work-ups, component preparation, and blood received from outside facilities.
• Performs and results all automated and manual Chemistry procedures, troubleshoots Chemistry instruments, and performs blood gas testing.
• Performs and results all automated and manual Hematology procedures, troubleshoots and maintains Hematology instruments, performs coagulation studies, CBC’s with differentials, body fluid analysis, peripheral smears, and utilizes the Hematology section of the LIS computer system.
• Performs all aspects of Microbiology planting and processing of send-out tests, troubleshoots Microbiology instruments, performs PCR testing, susceptibility testing, gram stains, Mycology, Urinalysis testing, and utilizes the Microbiology section of the LIS computer system.
• Organizes work during heavy workloads, multi-tasks to expedite patient care, keeps the work area clean and organized.
• Maintains open communication with physicians, nursing staff, and co-workers, consults with supervisor if needed to resolve technical problems.
• Maintains all appropriate competencies and continuing education requirements, reviews technical articles, presents educational sessions, assists with teaching students and orienting new employees.
• Participates in quality control and quality assurance monitors, assists supervisor with reviewing policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science
• MLS Certification

• 0-1 year(s) of work-related experience

Pay Range

$38.52 – $51.84
