About the Role
Memorial Hermann Pearland Campus seeks a Medical Technologist or MLT to join our team on Nights. Generalist experience is preferred. This position is responsible for performing various laboratory tests and procedures as assigned.
Schedule
6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.; rotating weekends.
Responsibilities
- Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
- Manages and performs other aspects of daily lab operations including collections, sample processing, results reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow.
- Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders, reporting results with sensitivity to customer needs.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system; adheres to standards set by governmental and accrediting agencies (TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, CLIA).
- Performs duties to promote quality patient care, customer satisfaction, safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to Memorial Hermann policies and standards within budgetary specifications.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development through continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals and serves as a mentor to less experienced staff.
- Demonstrates commitment to compassionate and personalized care for every member of the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biological science (foreign education equivalency required).
Qualifications
- Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM.
- ASCP Certification Eligible (with one of the following):
- Bachelor’s degree in biological science AND successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS program within the last 5 years.
- MLT(ASCP) certification and two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last four years.
- CLA (ASCP) Certification and a bachelor’s degree in a biological science with four years of full-time acceptable experience in the specified laboratory areas within the last eight years.
- Five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in the specified areas within the last ten years.
