About the Role
Memorial Hermann Katy Campus seeks a Medical Technologist or MLT to join the team on evenings. This position is responsible for performing various laboratory tests and procedures as assigned.
Schedule
7 days on, 7 days off (10-hour shifts).
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological science (equivalency required for foreign education).
Licenses/Certifications: One of the following is required:
- Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT)
- Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International)
- Certified CLS (ASCP)
- Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM
- ASCP Certification Eligible, which includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological science and successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS program within the last 5 years; or
- MLT(ASCP) certification and two years of full-time acceptable laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S., Canada, or an accredited laboratory within the last four years; or
- CLA (ASCP) Certification and a bachelor’s degree in a biological science plus four years of full-time acceptable experience in the specified laboratory areas within the last eight years; or
- Five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in the specified areas within the last ten years.
Responsibilities
- Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
- Manages and performs daily lab operations, including collections, sample processing, results reporting, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow, tailoring processes to the age and needs of the patient populations served.
- Communicates special circumstances to appropriate personnel and interacts with hospital staff, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimen orders and results, ensuring sensitivity to customer needs.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and the system, adhering to standards set by governmental and accrediting agencies such as TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
- Performs duties to promote quality patient care, customer satisfaction, safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to continuous improvement (PI process).
- Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency, supporting department-based goals, and serving as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
- Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of the community by creating compassionate, personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
