Medical Technologist - Nights

Location: CHA Cambridge Hospital – Full-time, union-represented (CH Laborers 380 Lab) position.

About the role

Through the utilization of applied theories, principles, and practices of clinical laboratory technology, you will perform and report tests to promote the efficient operation of the laboratory and provide effective patient care. The CHA laboratory provides everything from routine blood and urine tests to special tissue evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Perform and evaluate Quality Control.
• Perform testing in Chemistry and Diagnostic Immunology.
• Participate in proficiency testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic instrument problems.
• Receive and process a variety of laboratory specimens; use the Meditech computer system for data entry, computerized worksheets, and instrument interfaces.
• Perform both STAT and routine testing accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist the manager in developing new methods and evaluating cost feasibility as required.
• Train new employees in department procedures and policies.
• Participate in department meetings and workflow analysis; conduct QI audits.
• Fulfill on-call coverage responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (MT) required.
• Registration/certification as MT or MLS (ASCP) or equivalent (NCA, AMT, or HEW) highly preferred at time of hire. Candidates who will take and pass the certification exam at the next opportunity will be considered.

Schedule

• Night shift: 11:15 pm – 7:15 am, 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week.
• Weekend, holiday, and on-call requirements apply.
