About the Role
Performs routine and moderate to highly complex testing and analyses according to established procedures in the Clinical Laboratory.
Requirements
- Certification by ASCP, AMT, or NCA as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist; or a bachelor's degree with equivalent certification.
- ASCP, AMT, or NCA Registry eligible candidates will be considered but must receive certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Must provide proof of academic diploma, transcript, or primary source verification (PSV) report confirming credentials.
- Able to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
Qualifications
- One (1) year of recent hospital or Clinical Reference lab experience as a generalist performing moderate to high complexity tests is preferred.
- Ability to prioritize workload and assist co-workers to meet established turnaround times.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills in a diverse population.
- Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Performs all STAT and routine clinical testing according to established standards and completes analysis within established time frames 90% of the time.
- Performs, records, and reviews Quality Control Analysis according to established standards and takes corrective action when QC variances occur.
- Performs proficiency testing such as CAP surveys.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and documents instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
- Reviews and evaluates lab reports for clarity, accuracy, and timeliness; identifies and resolves problems affecting test performance or reporting.
- Participates in the review and revision of policies and procedures.
- Receives reagents and supplies according to standards.
- Participates in specimen procurement, handling, and processing.
- Assists in the orientation of students and new employees.
- Performs as lead technologist when requested or required.
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with Valley Medical Center's values, including good performance and attendance history.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious specimens.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other laboratory conditions.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate.
- Frequent interaction with a diverse population, including team members and customers.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
Pay
Salary range: $43.42 – $72.86 per hour, DOE.
Schedule
Night shift, 7-on/7-off.
