Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of clinical laboratory testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
  • Analyze patient specimens and accurately report laboratory results in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance standards are met and document all required laboratory activities.
  • Review, verify, and release test results while maintaining accuracy and timely turnaround times.
  • Perform specimen processing, preparation, handling, and storage according to laboratory protocols.
  • Navigate instrument malfunctions and testing discrepancies and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety, infection control, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, providers, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, and continuing education activities as required.
  • Support operational needs of the laboratory, including weekend, holiday, and off-shift coverage as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelors degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related science (i.e. biology, chemistry, etc.) AND completion of an accredited medical technology clinical practice program (i.e. NAACLS, CAAHEP, ABHES)
  • OR Accredited (NACCLS) Bachelors-level degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related program
  • Graduate from a medical technology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)
  • Current certification/registration as determined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience within the past five (1) years
  • Previous experience working in a VA laboratory environment is highly preferred
  • Experience operating any of the following analyzers is strongly preferred: Chemistry: Abbott Alinity, Hematology: Sysmex, Coagulation: ACL TOP, Urinalysis: Sysmex, Blood Bank: Bio-Rad IH-500
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory medicine techniques and practices
  • Demonstrated education and clinical training in the practice of laboratory medicine
