Responsibilities
- Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting.
- Avoid delays in testing and report results accurately and promptly.
- Ensure specimen integrity and identify and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria.
- Resolve pending specimen results from the laboratory information system for assigned departments.
- Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion).
- Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization and stock of work area.
- Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment.
- Answer the telephone, greet customers and provide consult and technical support to the physicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff.
- Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported.
- Document quality control and out of range results in an appropriate manner.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalent.
- Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels.
- One or more of Microbiology, Immunohematology or other licenses.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology preferred.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred.
- One year of clinical experience preferred.
Skills
- Finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
- Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests.
- Ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to ensure operational efficiency.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
- Ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

Pay
Pay Range Minimum hourly: $34.00
Maximum hourly: $45.65
Schedule
Monday-Friday nights from 9:00PM – 7:30AM, including rotating weekend requirements. Floating between Martin North, Martin South and Tradition Hospitals will be required, as needed.
