Responsibilities
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow established quality control policies and procedures in documenting all corrective actions.
- Identify and address problems affecting test performance.
- Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
- Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment.
- Review and document accuracy of patient results before release.
- Recognize and account for age-specific differences in test results.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient samples and collaborate only after reporting results.
- Assist with venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
- Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
- Assist with tasks related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Point-of-Care Testing (POC).
Qualifications
- ASCP certification or equivalent required.
- Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA.
- Current and valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
