JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Medical Technologist performs all duties of the Medical Technologist, including diagnostic testing, sample preparation, and analysis. They also function as a resource and liaison, overseeing lab operations and managing staff.
Job Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee lab staff and workflow across multiple locations.
- Assign staff to clinic locations as needed.
- Manage daily billing responsibilities.
- Resolve issues and escalate as necessary to the laboratory manager.
- Communicate with the lab manager on employee issues.
- Perform, verify, and report laboratory tests according to policy and procedure manuals.
- Ensure proper operation of laboratory equipment through calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain laboratory supplies inventory and document usage.
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.
- Provide medical technology information and answer questions.
- Prepare and assist in technical inservices.
- Participate in proficiency testing as assigned.
- Document all phases of patient testing from pre-analytical to post-analytical stages.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, AND REGISTRATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS program or a U.S. Military medical laboratory training program qualifying for ASCP MLS certification eligibility.
- Current certification or certification eligibility within 12 months of hire as a Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC, or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by AMT, or an equivalent national certifying agency.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- 5 years’ MT experience required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to learn and retain patient care procedures.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Compassion and caring in dealing with others.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Procedural performance demonstration to new personnel.
- Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions.
- Interpersonal skills for communication with physicians and other personnel.
