Medical Technologist

About the role

Join Memorial Health University Medical Center as an evening Micro Medical Technologist (Nine Hour Shift). This role performs both stat and routine microbiology and/or serology testing under the guidance of a laboratory supervisor, manager, or director. You will be critical in specimen processing, testing, and quality control, ensuring compliance with department policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards. The position requires theoretical knowledge of laboratory medicine, independent judgment, and problem-solving skills to deliver timely and accurate results.

Responsibilities

• Perform all approved laboratory procedures in assigned areas of licensure, requiring a high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise.
• Independently perform specimen processing, stat and routine microbiology, serology, and infectious disease testing.
• Exercise independent judgment under minimum to moderate supervision.
• Demonstrate skills in performing routine procedures, interpreting results, and taking appropriate actions when necessary.
• Organize workload to achieve efficiency and report results in a timely manner according to patient needs.
• Determine the acceptability or rejection of results according to standards set for tests and request assistance when needed.
• Perform, record, and document corrective action when quality control results are not within defined limits, adhering to established policies, procedures, and CAP proficiency guidelines.
• Follow best practice methodologies and laboratory compliance policies and procedures.
• Ensure proper operation for high-quality test performance by performing daily maintenance and managing supply stock.
• Practice infection control through careful hand washing and wearing personal protective equipment, ensuring safety for patients and self.
• Maintain a well-kept work area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Technologist in Microbiology (M-ASCP).
