About the Role

The Medical Technologist performs and evaluates complex chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, immunologic, and immunochemical tests to obtain data for physician diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Responsibilities include quantitative and qualitative analysis of body fluids using manual and automated instrumentation, accurate reporting of test results, and effective problem-solving for equipment and procedural issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and record instrument checks, quality control procedures, calibration, and maintenance as required.
  • Accurately and completely report test results and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and ineffective procedures; use alternative methods when appropriate.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a clean, disinfected work area with appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Meet established turnaround times for routine and STAT tests.
  • Organize and prioritize work during varying workload situations.
  • Access, input, and retrieve information from the EMR.
  • Assess the credibility of results using sound judgment and generally accepted medical technology principles.
  • Communicate with physicians or nurses regarding callback values or problems.
  • Promptly answer phone requests, instrument alarms, and outpatient alarms.
  • React calmly and effectively in emergency situations and meet deadaround times for "stats" and routine tests.
  • Report results of laboratory findings efficiently via computer, paper, or callback if indicated.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent combination of education and clinical experience making the employee eligible to take the registry examination.
  • Registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire.
  • One year of Medical Technology training at an approved hospital.
  • Ability to work independently, react calmly in emergency situations, and meet deadlines.

Schedule

1st and 2nd shift available. 28–40 hours per week.
